With a longstanding reputation for providing the community with high-quality educational opportunities, Owens Community College is holding an Open House for high school students, adults considering college or a career change, and those interested in learning more about the College to gather valuable information.
The Open House will take place on Thursday, June 29 from noon to 5 p.m. on both the Toledo and Findlay-area campuses. Fall classes begin August 21.
“This is a great opportunity to learn about Owens programs and certificate options and how they can help prepare students for the workforce and future career success,” said Meghan Schmidbauer, Assistant Dean, Admissions, International Students, and College Credit Plus. “We provide high-quality academic programs, services, and resources all at an affordable cost, which is really what sets us apart.”
Owens faculty members and representatives will be available to speak with future students about the over 100 programs and certificates offered throughout four academic schools: School of Business, Information and Public Service; School of Liberal Arts; School of Nursing and Health Professions; and School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). A complete list of programs is available at www.owens.edu/academic_dept/index.html. Small class sizes with an average ratio of 15:1 ensure a personal experience from engaged instructors who come to know students on a first-name basis.
At the Open House, individuals may complete the Owens admissions application as well as learn more about financial aid and receive assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). There will also be opportunities to sign up for New Student Orientation, schedule placement testing, and to set up time to meet one-on-one with an advisor.
“This event is for future students to get the answers they need to accomplish their admissions steps. We will have a team of people on-hand to make starting classes an easy process,” said Schmidbauer. “Our mission is to help students succeed and accomplish the goals they have set for themselves.”
A comprehensive system of support from tutoring to counseling services is available to all Owens students. Owens also has a dedicated staff of veterans to provide assistance to veteran students and their families. Throughout the year, students have the opportunity to participate in social events, service and community outreach initiatives, and on-campus activities such as athletic and art and theater events for a complete educational experience. Information on these activities will also be available.
The Open House will take place in the Audio Visual Classroom Center on the Toledo-area Campus and in the Education Center on the Findlay-area Campus.
